ACHD works to build shared strategies around Economic Development in our region. ACHD is also seeking and advocating for the opportunity to acquire land and develop affordable housing. We are working on finding land that is in close proximity to public transit and can be developed into an African Diaspora cultural center, quality preschool, rent-to-own affordable housing, a small business resource center, and affordable retail space.
DEVELOPING ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY
ACHD is increasing organizational capacity through diversified fundraising strategy. In addition, we are looking to hire staff with experience in Urban Development and Capital Facilities Planning. ACHD is continuously looking for team members with complimenting skills in affordable housing development, innovative financing, phased project implementation, and scalable solutions in developing sustainable, affordable housing.
HEALTHY FOOD ACCESS
ACHD is striving for a future where communities of color have access to affordable, healthy, culturally-relevant foods. By expanding our youth advocacy programs like Grow Together, we are helping develop a new generation of leaders who understand the importance of food justice. In addition, we aim to develop permanent farmers markets and food assistance programs to eliminate food apartheid zones in South King County.
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING
ACHD is working to increase access to after-school programming, physical activity, sports, and the outdoors for African Diaspora students. We are working to increase the rate of King County youth meeting the CDC’s physical activity guidelines through policies, programs, research and information-sharing so that all youth have access to the benefits of movement on mental, emotional and physical well-being.
