Happy June! As we head into the summer months I wanted to take the time to reflect on some recent major wins for the African Diaspora community in this "In Case You Missed It" edition of our monthly newsletter.
🌱 The Delridge Farmers Market Celebrates Community!
In a beautiful display of community gathering, the Delridge Farmers Market opened for its third season May 20th, 2023. Many of you gathered with us to celebrate the start of an abundant harvest season, and we look forward to seeing you more as the season continues. Join us at Hope Academy (9421 18th Ave SW, Seattle) every Saturday from 10am - 2pm through October 28th!
💰 ACHD Included in Washington Legislative Capital Budget!
We are thrilled to announce that ACHD has been included in the Washington State Legislative Capital Budget, receiving an allocation of $4M to help fund our African Diaspora Cultural Anchor Village. The Cultural Anchor Village will provide decades of support for Black families via early learning services, affordable housing, arts and event space, and more. ACHD would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the District 33 State Legislators for recognizing the needs of our community and championing our cause.
✊ We've Joined the Black Home Initiative!
The Black Home Initiative (BHI) is a dynamic group that aspires to reach a time when the homeownership rates for Black communities in Washington State will be equal to those of their white peers. As an organization that prioritizes Black homeownership, ACHD's collaboration with BHI represents a step forward in achieving fair housing practices and empowering Black families.
🙌 Let's Celebrate the Success of GiveBIG!
ACHD and I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the generous individuals who came together to make this year's GiveBIG campaign a resounding success. Through your unwavering support we exceeded our fundraising goals, met our match, and came together to have a lasting impact on our community.
Thank you again for your support of ACHD and our work. Together we are making a difference for the African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community.
In Community,
Hamdi Abdulle | Executive Director
